The concept of kingdoms was started by God. God has a kingdom and not a religion. In a kingdom everything is in a king. When the king shows up, the government has arrived. The king sets the standards for the kingdom. If the king says yes, it's yes, if he says no, its no. Whether you like it or not.
Sometimes I think we want to democratize God. The bible will never make sense if you look at God like a president and not a King.
Religion is flexible, kingdoms are not. The word obedience is not found in democracy. In democracy you don't obey, you cooperate. You can't live in the kingdom of God and have your own ideas about how things should be done. In a kingdom, the will of the king, is the mandate of governance. The word of the king becomes law. The king personally owns everything and the citizens serve at the pleasure of the king. Worship. The king's reputation is shown by the lifestyle and well being of the citizens. His Glory.
Our occupation should not be with going to heaven, it should be that heaven comes to us. The original mandate of God was to colonize earth with heaven. To establish a world of heaven on earth. It's in the lord's prayer. When man fell in Genesis, he lost family, relationship with the kingdom of heaven and governance on earth. When Isaiah prophesied about Jesus, he said the government was on his shoulders.
Easter is about God restoring all that we lost. All. If Jesus brought us back governance and we want to leave…..well then, who will govern.
The Book The Spirit Contemporary Life by Leon Fontaine, teaches how we should influence earth for Jesus, in a way that is full of the Holy Spirit but NOT religious.
Cheers!
